Weekly Report.....

Alright... so this week.... Sunday night we found out that Preparation
Day was being moved to Thursday. We were a little upset, cause we
weren't given time to prepare.... So we got special permission to go to
the store and do laundry. (Our milk doesn't last a week and so we have
to go to the store or find something besides cereal to eat for
breakfast) And then a lot of people were upset cause the libraries would be
closed on Thursday and we wouldn't be able to e-mail. So we all got
permission to e-mail today- so that was good!
Let's see.... we've been seeing a lot of members. I was senior for a
day on Saturday and also yesterday. To make me have to follow the
Spirit. It was interesting. I'm trying to remember everything that
happened last week. A lot of making fun of the Elders. They both have girls
they are writing. Both of them are older. Elder Orton goes home in 2
months and Elder Thompson just got out. And they got interesting
letters, and so we got to make fun of them. Good times.
Isaac Burris..... he's cool, he recently got baptized. Elder Orton
told us of when he was interviewing Isaac for baptism. He asked him if he
believed Joseph Smith was a prophet. Isaac said no. And Elder Orton
was thinking, oh great. And Elder Orton continued, "You're willing to
get baptized without knowing that he's a prophet?" Isaac said, I don't
know if he's a prophet, but I hope he's a prophet. I feel good
whenever the Sisters tell me about him and I'm willing to get baptized without
knowing. I didn't know about all that until last Tuesday, but I
thought it was cool. Isaac is continuing to grow and learn in the Church. I
was a little uneasy about baptizing him because I wasn't sure if he was
ready. All the other people I've seen get baptized really knew.
Carlos Escalona, Paul Mansour, Joyce Coleman, and Mia Gros. And then I knew
others were ready even though I didn't see their baptisms- Zahkila
Miller, Kim and Johnny Fennix, and I think that's it. But anyways, things
are going well.
In my blessing that I got last night I was told that I have helped many
people come closer to Jesus Christ. Even those I have just talked to
on the streets have been able to feel of my spirit and have more of the
light of Christ in their lives. That was comforting to know. And I
feel like that is true.
There's a lady, Roxanne that we're teaching that's pretty much ready to
be baptized. She's been going through a lot, including a really bad
car accident where she broke her back. She finds similarities with
Joseph Smith and got a blessing last week from the Elders. She was so
excited about it afterwards and will be baptized as soon as we can get her
to church and taught.
Then there's a guy named Charles. We've been seeing him for awhile.
He has known from the beginning that what we say is true, but was a
severe alcoholic. We never taught him sober until last week. (It didn't
matter the time of day) He has now been sober for almost a week, and is
working on staying that way. Next he has to work on his smoking, but
we can actually teach him now, so that's cool.
We go over and see BB all the time. I think part of the reason why
she's inactive is that she feels out of place. She has a love of life,
and feels like most "white people" dont/cant have fun. We go over and
play games with her though. And even when she's gambling she'll tell
people why "her church" is better. And tell them how they can change
their lives. She likes to teach people the Law of Chastity....
Interesting first lessons with most people.... but it's fun. On Saturday we had
an interesting day. We played football, and sword fights (over at
Bernice's) and then we went over to BB's where Connie (her 12 year old son)
has a crush on me.... and then we also went to a birthday party for a
little girl, Ijeoma. The grandma is inactive (thinks she's a prophetess
and a healer), and Ijeoma's older sister Christine was baptized
recently before I came here.
Anyways, we've been having fun. It's getting cold, but the town is
already decorating for Christmas. It's really neat. There's lights
EVERYWHERE. Especially on Main Street. I don't know where the nearest
Santa Claus is... probably out of our area..... But we do try and talk to
everyone.
Most of our lessons last week were special, which was REALLY cool!
Things are going well, and things are picking up. We have lots of work to
do- there's lots of work to do all over. Anyways, I think that about
covers my week last week.
LOVE YALL!!!!
Sister Jamie Lang
