Ok, so my week…. We had a baptism!!!! Paul Monsour! Who is 42.
Long story but he has been learning from the missionaries for like 2
years now. Back when he first started he almost got baptized. An Elder
Russell had been teaching him. He needed a 2nd interview and didn’t
pass. He became suicidal and really depressed. So time went by and he
continued going to a Pentecostal church. Seeing the missionaries on and
off. So on April 6th we get a phone call…. He was calling for the
elders and when he found out we were sisters tried to drop us. Yeah so
we stopped by his house later that week. He was a little reluctant at
first. But then he got really interested again. We got him to start
coming to church and taught him things. Anyways, so we’ve been
teaching him and he was still going to need a second interview. So we got
things settled and he was really worried. There were some people in the
ward who knew what he had done and he was afraid they wouldn’t sustain
him even if he did pass. Well, the night of the interview came and
Paul was early- he got to the church before us. An elderly couple,
Brother Chambers came to do the interview and walked in and asked what his
calling was to Paul, not knowing that he was the one he was going to
interview. Paul replied firmly, “My calling is to be baptized.†YES!
So he passed, and he was so excited. He has a friend who he wants to
convert and has already started trying to get her to come to church.
She made it out to the baptism. Well the people in the ward who knew his
past found out he was getting baptized and they were so excited for
him! They came to the baptism- I don’t know how far they had to drive,
and said the prayers. Paul’s favorite song is “Choose the Rightâ€
So that was our opening song. Let’s see, what else…. Oh and Elder
Russell is going home this transfer and got special permission to come
up and baptize Paul. It was awesome! So everything is going good!
Paul calls us and tells us that everything is great. He called us once
after work and said that his day was awesome! He was like, well nothing
too great happened but I was happy all day, and I was smiling and
everyone I work with thought I was crazy. He says he’s telling his boss
to watch his language- that taking the Lord’s name in vain isn’t
very nice…. It’s awesome!!!! He’s going to get the priesthood this
week! Everything is going great!
Then there’s Miss Joyce Coleman and her mother Sister Stewart.
Sister Stewart is inactive but starting to get back. She wanted a bigger
print BOM and D&C so she could read more often. And then she started
wearing ½ of her G’s again. Joyce and her mom were constantly arguing
when we first went by and now there’s such a difference. Joyce is
quitting smoking slowly but surely, and we’re hoping that she’ll be
baptized on May 20th. So Sister Henderson can be there. She flies out
that afternoon. I gave Joyce’s grandson a cd of mine- he loves it
and asked if I sang in front of people. I said sometimes…. That’s
Cally. He’s so cute.
Oh and Cassie was worried that I wasn't teaching the little folk. I
acknowledge the little folk and sometimes that helps us teach the
parents, but we can't really teach the little folk. If they're under 18 we
need parent permission. But we try to find families with little folk,
but sometimes it's hard.
Hmmmm let's see, what else.... I think that's pretty much it....
I love you all!!!!
Love,
Sister Jamie Lang
